The January 17 2011 WWE Raw began with John Cena coming to the ring. Clips were shown of when the new Nexus had attacked Cena. He dismissed it, saying it was last year, and this was his first time in the ring in 2011. Cena said he was ready, and had some resolutions: to beat CM Punk, win the Royal Rumble, and win the WWE Championship again. Cena challenged Punk to face him, but the Miz and Alex Riley came out instead.

Miz said nobody wanted to see Cena be WWE Champion. Miz said he was the most must-see WWE Champion and he made Raw more exciting than it had been in years. Miz informed everyone that the Royal Rumble match would now have 40 participants rather than 30, so the odds were against Cena. Miz said whoever won the Royal Rumble shouldn’t go after him, because they would lose.
